Victory Garden

In 2025 a dream came true, I grew my very own food garden. I had lived in several conscious communities learning about and growing food such as at Light Morning in Floyd Virginia, Turtle Island in Boone North Carolina, and The Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center in Patagonia Arizona. I remember this was the closest I had felt to God when living off the land and eating food that I sprouted and grew from seed. I am so grateful for the experiential education I got from these years of living in conscious community as it prepared me for when I got my own land. I learned many skills such as cover cropping, soil health, seed germination, harvest technique, and food combining (ie. what foods grow well together). This has always been my motivating force with my work and financial investments, to own land and grow food on it.

Life has a beautiful way of teaching us patience and for manifesting miracles through relationship with others. For most of us in the Yoga, Nutrition, and Health fields we are more rewarded with the success of others we help, than we are financially. However growing food is cost effective once you get through the start up costs such as building garden beds, and quality soil. Seeds are reasonable and after a first year of gardening many of your foods will share with you their seeds for the next years garden. I was blessed to learn that the local library had an organic and free seed bank for community residents. It was also really fun to go to the local garden center and pick out our seeds. Living in Colorado for decades I already knew what seeds would have the best chance and also took some risks with seeds of watermelon, cantaloupe, etc. which never grew into a harvest.

I met my husband Nathan in college at Appalachian State University. Our connections were brief, non eventful and now really fun for us to recall. We reconnected decades later, became best friends, fell in love, and chose each other for life and marriage. I will write more about this too, as it is never too late to find the love of your life. Turned out Nathan owns land, and also grew up on a farm. He already had an apple tree, grapevines, blueberry bushes, currant bushes, and several herbs such as mint, cilantro, roses, lavender, and even some bursts of chard near the fence lines. I had the perfect palate for my dream so I began sprouting the seeds on Valentines Day soon after creating our home together. Nathan rented a tractor, we bought the soil, and he built us a few large garden beds.

Our harvest was delicious! We enjoyed potatoes, red and yellow onions, red lettuce, butter lettuce, mixed greens, cucumbers, kale, carrots, zucchini, squash, chard, grapes, apples, blueberries, currants, raspberries, sunflowers, radishes, peas, and lots of joy and love.
We never know when our dreams will manifest. We hold the feelings first before we get what we want. For decades I held tight to the feelings of having my garden and it is my greatest blessing in life to have my husband Nathan be apart of making my dream come true. He even enjoys eating my salads! Pictures are worth 1000 words.
I look forward to sharing more as I prepare for my 2026 garden.
Breathe deep and stay positive. All is coming.
